Brain Fitness???

So I keep hearing the Kaiser Permanente commercial on the radio about brain fitness. First, I am loving the fact that KP is giving so much good info on their commercials. Second, this one really got me thinking. I am always telling my clients to "do it anyway", "just do as much as you can", "try new things with your exercsie routine", "do something that you like to do", "have fun", etc, etc, etc!! And that is what KP is telling people to do with their brain too. Just like you have to challenge your quads with squats and lunges, and your core with planks and crunches, you have to do that to your brain as well. These types of activities increase your focus, help with your problem solving skills and can even help with your memory. So here is your brain fitness homework. Instead of going home at night and watching TV, go for a game of Sudoku, work on a puzzle or try a crossword. Now get to working out your brain!!

So I am not much of a cook......

I have my standard 8 or 9 recipes that I rotate and that's about it. Thank goodness my other half is a master in the kitchen!! :) Recently I have found the BEST oil to cook with that even a so-so chef like myself can make masterpieces with. It is Grapesee Oil from Wildtree. They have Zesty Lemon, Natural Butter flavored and Roasted Garlic that I use on a very regular basis. Not only is it great because you can cook with it at higher temperatures without burning, it is good for you too. YAY!! It is low in saturated fat, high in antioxidants, and there is NO cholesterol in it!! And it's delicious!! My favorite is to saute sliced onions in the Zesty Lemon oil, saute my chicken in the Roasted Garlic and grill my corn in the Natural Butter flavored with a little lemon pepper and garlic. You would never know that you didn't put "real" butter on there. These oils are a great way to make what you already eat just a little healthier. You should try this stuff!!! Check it all out at www.yvonneh.mywildtree.com or you can call Yvonne at 310.850.6443 if you have questions. Let me know how you like it!!

How many cupcakes can I eat a day to get ripped abs?

My friend "b" posted this question so I thought I would make it into a full post. So here goes my answer. First, I truely believe that you should enjoy your food and not deprive yourself of your cravings. That being said, I think that there is a happy medium between eating the things you love and the things that are healthy for you.....hopefully some of these foods are both healgthy and you love them. You should know what goes in your body and what "comes out" or is burned each day also. If you are a person who's goal is to LOSE weight, then your balance needs to be more calories burned each day than taken in. If you want to GAIN weight, then you want more calories in than burned. And if you want to maintain, of course, you want these to be equal.

So if a cupcake each day is what makes you truely happy, then you need to incorporate that into your daily total calorie and make sure that, if you are going to eat those calories, that you also burn those calories. I have to admit, it will be a challenge getting ripped abs eating this EVERY day, but I am sure it can be done. Lots of core exercises, lots of cardio and being almost "perfect" with every other meal in your day may suffice, but in reality, ("b") it might be best to keep the cupcakes down to special occassions.

Hope that helps. Talk to you soon. :):)

Hello Everyone...I am back!!!

I have been away from my blog for a while now and I am sorry to have left you. I am now back and ready to go with lots of new, fabulous information. I will be posting a new blog weekly, but if anything else wondeful comes up that I feel I need to share, there may be more, so keep an eye out. If you have any questions, concerns or just something you are curious about having to do with fitness, nutrition, chiropractic, training, running, triathlons, etc., please feel free to contact me and let me know. I will get you the answer you have been looking for!! Also, I have included all of my information on my bootcamps, training, Chiropractic and more. Check it out!! And don't forget to become a FOLLOWER!! :)

As for me, I have been very busy lately. My latest venture is a sprint triathlon!! Can you believe it?!?! I am a little scared of the swimming part, so I will keep you posted on how the lessons are going. I got a new bike and bike gear and am learning to clip in and out of the pedals. So far only one fall, but I do have a nice scar from the rear sprocket. Good times. Anyone want to join me in training?? Any suggestions from anyone?

Well, I am glad to be back. Can't wait to keep in touch. Talk to you soon. And don't forget to look for new posts every Monday.

Which comes first...the stretch or the warm up???

Think about cooking a chicken...is it easier just out of the freezer or after it has been thawed?? After it has been thawed or warmed up right?? Well your body is the same way. It is safer and healthier to challenge/stretch a muscle after it has been warmed up. You should warm up first with a few minutes of walking, cycling, or elliptical and then stretch to properly prepare your body for a workout. You should also do stretching exercises at the end of your workout to help lengthen your muscles and keep them from cramping. Stretching cold muscles can cause pain and long term injuries. So even if you work with a trainer and they warm you up, a good idea is to come to your appointment a little early and do your own warm up/stretch program to keep you body healthy and your workouts beneficial.
